If not the most iconic, picturesque place in San Francisco, the Painted Ladies are certainly one of them. Built in 1860, just after the 1849 gold rush to the San Francisco area, these houses have survived a lot, including the devastating 1906 earthquake that destroyed most of the other homes in the area. These Queen-Anne style homes remain featured on postcards and are a classic image of the city.
